A shop born of one obsession: the golden age of endurance racing, 1960 to 1984. No fast fashion, no dormant stock — each piece is made when you order it.
Between 1960 and 1984, endurance racing produced machines no one will ever build again. Prototypes drawn with a ruler and intuition, engines you could hear coming three corners away, drivers who set off for twenty-four hours not knowing whether they would come back. That era has a look: team colours, hand-painted numbers, the logos of oil companies long gone.
Camshaft was born of the wish to wear that era without caricaturing it. No slavish reproduction, no hijacked logos: pieces that evoke a race, a car, a year, for those who recognise them.
"Every garment tells the story of a race, a driver, an era."
Textiles are one of the industries that destroys the most unsold goods. Producing a thousand pieces hoping to sell six hundred, then discounting or destroying the rest, is the usual model. We chose the opposite: nothing is printed before it is ordered.
That changes two things for you. Lead time: allow a few days of manufacturing on top of standard shipping. And the catalogue: we can offer hundreds of designs, including obscure races no brand could ever justify producing in bulk.
A enthusiast's garment is worn for years, not for a season. So we work with high-weight, eco-responsible textiles, chosen to survive washing and keep their drape — not to hit a headline price.
Printing and flocking are entrusted to a partner in Le Mans, a few kilometres from the 24 Hours circuit. A choice of consistency as much as proximity: goods do not cross the planet before reaching you, and we can see a piece before it ships.
Camshaft is an independent operation, deliberately small. No marketing department, no warehouse, no imposed seasons: designs come out when they are ready, because a race deserves to be talked about.
In practice, the person who draws the designs is also the one who answers your messages. Expect a reply within 48 working hours, and do write with a sizing question, a club enquiry, or simply to point out a race we have overlooked.
A forgotten race, a vanished team, a livery nobody has ever printed? Write to us. That is often how the best designs come about.
